To help you better, include your iPhone model, your iOS version and your Valico version (at the bottom of the app's Settings), and what you were doing when it happened.

Frequently asked questions

The app says I'm in the wrong country. What do I do?

You can always change the suggested currencies by hand: tap the currency code (for example “MXN”) and choose the one you need. Your choice stays in place until you change country.

If location doesn't work, check in iOS Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, that Valico is set to “While Using the App”. If you're testing the app from a Mac with Xcode, remember that a simulated location stays active on the phone too.

Why don't the rates match my bank or card?

Valico shows mid-market rates, which include no fees or markups. Whoever exchanges your money, or your card, usually adds a margin. In “What you really pay” (in the app: “Quanto paghi davvero”) you see an estimate of what it costs you: the fees are approximate and you can edit them with “Custom” (“Personalizzato”).

What is dynamic currency conversion (DCC), which the app mentions?

When you pay abroad, at a card terminal or an ATM, you're sometimes asked whether you'd rather pay in your own currency instead of the local one. It almost always pays to decline and pay in the local currency: the conversion done by the merchant or by the bank running the machine usually costs more.

Does the app work without internet?

Yes. Valico keeps the latest rates it downloaded and tells you how recent they are. Offline you'll see an “Offline” note and every pair is still calculated, even ones you've never opened. As soon as your connection returns, rates update.

How often do rates update?

The app checks for new rates when you open it, every fifteen minutes while it's open, and as soon as your connection returns. How often the source publishes them depends on the service: some update once a day. If an update wasn't possible, Valico tells you and shows the date of the last update.

How do I change my name, home currency or start screen?

Tap the three-dot icon at the top right of the main screen to open Settings. There you'll also find the payment method used to calculate the real cost.

How do I add or remove a favorite, or change its amount?

Find the currency in the “Cerca” (Search) tab and open its detail. With the three-dot menu at the top right you can add it to your favorites (up to five), change the reference amount, or remove it.

How do I delete my data?

Everything stays on your iPhone: there's no account and I hold no data of yours to delete. Delete the app from your phone and the data it saved goes with it.

Which languages does the app support?

For now Valico is available in Italian only. This website is available in Italian and English.

I found a wrong currency or country, or a mistake.

Thank you! Write to me at support@matteopapini.com and tell me which currency or country and what doesn't look right.

Requirements

Valico runs on iPhone with iOS 26 or later. You need an internet connection to update rates; otherwise it works offline too.
